FRIDAY, 8 JANUARY 2016
I finally went and got a shot in my thumb to help with the arthritic pain I have been having.  Now it hurts mostly where the bruise is from the shot...perhaps it will feel better now.  Dr. Nelson is who I saw.  She finished her internship and started serving at this clinic in October.  She had her first baby last summer.  I felt like I was visiting with my daughter.  I like having a girl doctor.  Thank's for your help Dr. Nelson.  I will recommend you to all I know.  I also was told to quit taking the Ibuprofen I take.  I was told to start taking acetaminophen instead.  Growing old is painful!  Do all my friends agree?
Grandpa Arthur fixed our kitchen faucet.  It had been leaking but now is working good.  Hurrah for Grandpa!  He is the handyman!
This week in Seminary we have been teaching out of the book of Judges.  I have read this book many times and have taught this subject at least four other times...yet I keep learning.  Here are some highlights of this weeks experience in the scriptures.
There are Twelve Judges in the Book of Judges.  I want to highlight three in this blog.

Do you remember the story of the Judge, Deborah, The Mother of Israel?  She "dwelt under the palm tree" and the children of Israel came to her for judgement. The main general that served under her is "Barak"  Ha...minus the "c" that our President Barack spells his name..(One of the Seminary students caught this generals name)  Judges 3:3-9
Deborah told Barak to gather 10,000 soldiers and go defeat Sisera the captain of Jabin's army with his chariots and mighty army.  She said the Lord will deliver him into thine hand.
Barak said he would only go if she went with him.
She told him she would surely go with him so that it could be said that Sisera was defeated into the hand of a woman.
Also in the next chapter (4) Jael kills Sisera by smoteing him with a nail into his temples.  Do you remember reading this?

Gideon was a Judge whom an angel appeared to and told him to deliver Israel from the Midianites.  He gathered an army of 36,000.  The Lord told him this was too many and to take them to the river.  The Lord taught him how to choose his army by having them drink the water in the river.   300 were chosen because they used their hands to drink.  The rest lappeth the water with their tongues like a dog.  Judges 7:3-9
I told my grandchildren about Gideon.  My 8 year old grandson Leif, said, "Grandma, If I get drafted into the army, do you think if I lap water with my tongue like a dog that the army will let me go home"?  Out of the mouth of babes...
The 300 chosen soldiers defeated the Midianites by using trumpets, empty pitchers and lamps within the pitchers.  They were to shout "The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon" when Gideon gave the signal.  They broke the pitchers and held the lamp in one hand and blew the trumpets with their other hand as they shouted.  The other army ran, and cried and fled from them.  Then they set every man's sword against his fellow and the other army killed each other.  I wonder if this is called "gun control" or sword control?
Do you remember the story of Judge Gideon?

I was again impressed with Samson and his mothers faith.  Judges 13:3-9  An angel appears to her and tells her that she will be blessed to have the child she is praying for.  Her husband asks the angel His name and the angel said shh it is a secret.  So with faith they believe and Samson is born.  If you haven't read Samson's riddles lately...they are interesting.  Samson returned to the belief of his youth, at the end of his life, and received power again from The Lord.

We ended the week teaching about Naomi, Ruth & Boaz.  Its been quite the week of pondering for these youth and their teachers.  The Old Testament is an interesting book to teach to teenagers.  I am always in awe that I can reread the scriptures and get further light and knowledge than the last time I read the same verses.  Of course, another few years and all the scriptures will seem new to me...Ha!  It's a good thing we can take our brains with us when we die.  My computer brain has lots of memory chips that are now filed away, ready to be restored.
As I've pondered this great story, I have thought of the great examples of "Ruth's" in my own life.  Ruth 4:3-9 I so look forward to once again being greeted by my own mother-in-law, Genevieve Tanner.

I have been blessed with the most powerful sister-in-laws in this gospel.  They have all taught me so much.  I thank each of you for your love and kindness.  No two of us are alike, and I am sure they gossiped about me in our younger years...however I think each one of us would trust our life with the other.  After seeing how so many of Genevieve's daughters helped her transition to the next life, I am in awe of all her daughters.  She lost her memory and was quite "cranky" for over 12 years.  Her daughter-in-laws cared for her with such compassion.  Because of each of your examples I had the faith to care for my birth mother Fay & my Step-mother Sharlene.
We all love my husband's sisters.  Our greatest experience was living next door to Maylene in Houston.  I just want to thank my husband, Arthur, for allowing me to be a part if this eternal heritage.

I also want each of my four daughter-in-law's and my daughter to know that I pray for this same compassion and love to be with each of us.  I hope The Lord blesses me in these latter years to have my intellect and health.  Whatever the future holds, I trust my life with each of my own daughters and pray we may all develop a relationship like Naomi and Ruth.

We are looking forward to teaching about Samuel.
"Shh, Do you hear that?"
"Here am I Lord"

Several of our Grandchildren have been sick.  Lily stayed home from school one day this week.  I had to go give her some Grandma hug's... that's the best part about being a Grandma, right?

SATURDAY,  9 JANUARY 2016
We drove to Norman, OK for a Regional Seminary meeting today.  It was snowing on the way down.  We enjoyed the meetings and all the speakers.  President Gray from our Stake spoke to us.  Thank you for taking the time to do that for us President Gray.  It helps when we know our leaders have our backs!  Thank's to each person who participated in this meeting.  We can do this, right?

My daughter visited awhile ago and brought me a paper organizer that I purchased from her.  My wonderful son-in-law put this object together for me.  I am feeling bad that he spent his free time doing this for me.  He doesn't get much free time.  Thank you Mike for being so kind to the candy Grandma.  Love you bunches.
Happy New Year to me!

The week of January 3-9 is coming to a close.  It is cold outside in Edmond OK this evening.  Grandpa Arthur is watching ballgames and just built a warm fire in our wood stove.  I just finished reading the first chapters of Samuel for the lessons I will teach next week.  We look forward to tomorrow when we can attend Sacrament meeting and renew our covenants with the Lord.  We send hug's to each of you as we close this blog and begin a new week tomorrow.  May you recognize that you are loved.  Remember to tell your children you love them and give them hug's from us too.  Our love and prayers are with each of you.  We pray that you may have health, peace and prosperity.
Always,
Grandpa Arthur & Grandma Gene
